  Personal stuff

Teaching:  This semester (Spring 2024), I am teaching MATH 3180 (Probability for Engineers), and MATH 5120 (Introduction to Analysis).

This is some personal stuff that you might find interesting:

I have my Ph.D. from the Free University in Amsterdam. But I grew up on the countryside in a province called Zeeland ("land from the sea"), in the Southwest of the country, near Belgium. (Yes, we tell bad jokes about Belgians). It may not seem a big deal to you, but I lived below sea level the first 27 years of my life.

My hobbies are gardening, biking, hiking, playing chess, playing volleyball, doing math research, traveling, playing piano, and listening to music (favorite instrument: piano; favorite composers: Ravel, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev; but I'm also fond of jazz music, especially Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Duke Ellington).
Though I'm not a real addict, I like to go to the cinema sometimes. Favorite movies: Casablanca, Fargo, Kansas City, North by Northwest, and Il Postino (a beautiful Italian countryside portrait). And I always find James Bond movies quite entertaining.

What I like about Texas? The climate! It's really mucb, much better than the Dutch, Dutch weather. On average anyway.
Also, I like the space and the laid-back atmosphere.

On the down side, I really don't like:

The best thing about UNT? No doubt the many outstanding performances at the College of Music, ranging from classical to jazz and new music. If you like music, check out the Calendar of Events .
