26th Annual Texas Partial Differential

Equations Conference, March 29-30, 2003

University of North Texas

Schedule | Directions| Accommodations

Welcome to the home page for the 26th annual Texas Partial Differential Equations Conference to be hosted by the department of mathematics at the University of North Texas. The conference will be held Saturday March 29 and Sunday March 30 on the campus of the University of North Texas. All talks will be held in the Environmental Education, Science and Technology (ENV/EESAT) building, room 130. Talks will begin at 10am on Saturday and end around 4pm. Talks will resume on Sunday morning at 9am and end by noon. A dinner is planned for Saturday night to be followed by a party at the Neubergers'!

As luck would have it, there is a major Texas Motor Speedway event scheduled the weekend of March 29-30. Consequently, many hotels in Denton and near the Speedway (on I-35W between Fort Worth and Denton) are already booked. Thus, participants may have to book hotels outside of Denton - e.g. Lewisville, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Frisco, Irving, Plano, or Dallas. Also, it would probably be best to try to avoid traveling on I-35W between Fort Worth and Denton. For those traveling north on I-35 from San Antonio and Austin, it would probably be best to travel on I-35E beginning at Hillsboro and then through Dallas and onto Denton.

The Texas Partial Differential Equations Conference (Texas PDE) is an annual event that brings together researchers working on partial differential equations and related topics. The Texas PDE was first organized by Professors Charles Radin and Ralph Showalter at the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. The Texas PDE has a strong democratic condition: there are no principal speakers, all talks are allocated the same length of time, and there is no registration fee. The intent is to encourage participation by young faculty and graduate students.

Those wishing to present a talk should submit a title and abstract by Friday March 14, 2003 (preferably by email) to Joseph Iaia at iaia@unt.edu. or John Neuberger at jwn@unt.edu. Otherwise, titles and abstracts can be sent to:

Department of Mathematics
University of North Texas
Denton, Texas 76203-1430

Directions

The University of North Texas is located in Denton, Texas which is approximately 35 miles north of Dallas and Fort Worth and is easily accessible from I-35. Included here are maps of Dallas-Fort Worth-Denton , and the University of North Texas campus .

From Dallas:

Take I-35E northbound and take exit 466B - North Texas Boulevard. Turn right onto North Texas Boulevard and proceed approximately one mile to Hickory Street. Turn right onto Hickory and proceed for two blocks on Hickory to Ave C. The ENV/EESAT building is located at the southwestern corner of Ave C and Hickory. Due to the fact that the conference is on a weekend, any of the several nearby parking lots may be used without a parking tag.

From Fort Worth:

HEY! HEY! DON'T GO THIS WAY! There are racing events scheduled March 29-30 at the Texas Motor Speedway which is on I-35W between Fort Worth and Denton. With a probability of .9999, I-35W will look more like a parking lot than an expressway on March 29 and March 30.

Take I-35W northbound and take exit 85A - I-35E southbound. Take exit 466B - North Texas Boulevard. Turn left onto North Texas Boulevard and proceed approximately one mile to Hickory Street. Then follow the directions listed above in the "from Dallas" section.

From Oklahoma:

Take I-35 southbound. Near Denton the road forks into I-35E and I-35W. Proceed on I-35E southbound and take exit 466B - North Texas Boulevard. Turn left onto North Texas Boulevard and proceed approximately one mile to Hickory St. Then follow the directions listed above in the "from Dallas" section.

By Air:

Denton is approximately 30 miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport and about 40 miles north of Dallas Love Field Airport (served by Southwest Airlines).

Ground Transportation from DFW Airport:

Weekend rates for rental cars tend to be competitive with airport shuttle costs but less expensive than taxi service. From DFW take the north airport exit and take route 121 north/east to I-35E north and then follow the "from Dallas" directions above.

Airport shuttle service between DFW Airport and Denton costs about $25-$30 per person one way. Reservations required. 1-800-634-6231.

Denton taxicabs provide 24 hour service. Rates are approximately $40-$45 one way. 940-383-4155 or 972-554-1212.

Ground Transportation from Love Field:

From Love Field take Mockingbird Lane west/south to I-35E north and then follow the "from Dallas" directions.

Airport shuttle service between Love Field and Denton costs $25-$30 per person one way. Reservations required. 1-800-634-6231.
