John Ed Allen Scholarship Graduate Scholarship
Eligibility
The applicant must be a new or continuing graduate student
in mathematics at UNT.
Amount
Scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500
to $1000. Recipients will receive half of the award early
in the Fall semester and the other half in the Spring semester
contingent upon satisfactory performance in the Fall semester.
Criteria
Applicant must be a current or future UNT student with plans
for a career in the Mathematical sciences. Recipients must
have demonstrated academic excellence in mathematics and
show strong potential for completing graduate school and
a successful career in mathematics. Formal course work,
independent study, state and national exams, mathematics
competitions, etc. will be considered when making the scholarship
award.
Applications must include the following:
- Name
- Permanent Address
- Present Address
- Telephone Number
- Social Security Number
- A one-page statement describing your background in
mathematics, a statement of why you study mathematics,
and your plans for a career in some field of mathematics
- Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a
mathematics professor
- Official transcripts or other records which show courses
studied and grades earned
Additional material may be submitted to help the scholarship
committee determine the level of academic excellence attained
by the applicant and the potential of the applicant in mathematics.
Review of scholarship applications
by the Scholarship Committee will begin March 1. Applications
received after this date may also be considered.
