Mathematics Graduate Program

Tuition:

Currently, tuition is fully covered for all supported graduate students. Supported students are considered Texas residents for the purpose of determing tuition.  Here are current estimates of tuition and fees.  In order to estimate the tuition for supported students, use the Traditional Tuition Plan Calculator to calculate the latest tuition rates for Texas residents taking graduate classes in the College of Science. For example, in 2021-22 the Texas resident tuition and mandatory fees for three graduate courses in the College of Science (9 credit hours) is $4,128.18 per term.

Support:

9 month salaries for supported students may be found at the mathematics department graduate program's financial assistance page. Currently students who do not have either a Master's degree or 18 hours of graduate credit (normally the amount earned in one year of full-time study) earn $17,478, those who have a Master's degree or at least 18 hours of graduate credit earn $18,254.80, and those who are ABD (all but dissertation) earn $20,194.

An additional 1.5 months of summer support through TAships and RAships is usually available: multiply the above salaries by 7/6 to obtain the 10.5 month salaries.

Support is extended for up to six years for Ph.D. students, and up to three years for Master's students.

Department policy for outside employment of supported graduate students:

1) Any outside employment is discouraged for supported students.

2) Outside employment of supported students is allowed only under the following conditions:

   - The employment does not exceed 10 hours per week.
   - The employment does not occur during regular business hours (M-F 8:00 am to 5:00 pm).
   - The employment does not interfere with the student's graduate student duties.
   - The student seeks prior approval from the graduate advisor.

3) Outside employment during summer is admissible, except when the student is supported financially by the department.

4) Outside employment violating the above guidelines may lead to a termination of the support from the department.

5) Additional rules apply to international students. For example, all F1 and J1 international students must speak with the International Student and Scholar Services Office (international.unt.edu/immigration) prior to accepting any off-campus work opportunities.

Health Insurance:

The Toulouse Graduate School posts health insurance information here. The least expensive plan is the United HealthCare Student Insurance Policy, based at the UNT Health and Wellness Center (HWC). Their administrative tab has a billing and insurance link, where you can find a summary of the most recent domestic rates, as well as a link to the provider's site, where you can find detailed information on the coverage.

International Students: you will be automatically enrolled in the HWC plan. If you have other insurance and do not wish to pay for this plan, you will need to go to the center to waive it. (You may still have to pay for repatriation insurance.) Detailed information on insurance for international students is posted here.

Fellowships and Scholarships:

Special awards offered by the graduate school are described here. All applicants should apply for the Academic Achievement Scholarship.
