Class: Monday-Friday, 10:00-10:50, Physics 112

Text: Precalculus, 5th edition, by Stewart, Redlin, and Watson

Calculators: not allowed during exams, discouraged for homework

Homework: due twice weekly, usually at the beginning of class on Tuesdays and Fridays.  There will be approximately 30 assignments, each worth 5 points.  Collaboration is allowed, as the main purpose of the problem sets is to prepare you for the exams.

Grading: The highest possible score is 150 points on all the problem sets together, 150 points on each of the midterms, and 200 points on the final, for a total of 800 points.  The final grades will follow a curve which will depend on how well the class does and how hard I feel the tests are.  When I have taught this course in the past, the curve has usually been around 75% for an A, 65% for a B, 55% for a C, and 45% for a D.

Tutoring: available through TAMS or the Math Lab

It is the responsibility of students with disabilities to provide the instructor with appropriate documentation from the Dean of Students Office.

Note: Some of the graphing problems have a calculator icon next to them to indicate that you should use a calculator.  You should ignore it and try to do the problem without a calculator.  It is ok to use a calculator in word problems with large numbers.

Note: Final exam date changed by registrar, new date given below.

Final Exam: Monday, Dec. 10, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM, in the usual class room.  It will be comprehensive and worth 200 points.
