Text: Precalculus, 4th edition, by Stewart, Redlin, and Watson

Calculators: not allowed during exams, discouraged for homework

Final Exam: Friday, Dec.16, 8:00 AM-10:00 AM, in the usual class room.  It will be comprehensive.

Midterms: Sept. 20, Oct. 18, and Nov. 15 (all Tuesdays)

Homework: due twice weekly, at the beginning of class on Tuesdays and Fridays.  There will be approximately 30 assignments, each worth 5 points.  Collaboration is allowed, as the main purpose of the problem sets is to prepare you for the exams.

Grading: The highest possible score is 150 points on all the problem sets together, 150 points on each of the midterms, and 200 points on the final, for a total of 800 points.  The final grades will follow a curve which will depend on how well the class does and how hard I feel the tests are.  When I have taught this course in the past, the curve has usually been around 75% for an A, 65% for a B, 55% for a C, and 45% for a D.

Tutoring: available through TAMS or the Math Lab

Note: Some of the graphing problems have a calculator icon next to them to indicate that you should use a calculator.  You should ignore it and try to do the problem without a calculator.  It is ok to use a calculator in word problems with large numbers.
 

FINAL EXAM: Friday, Dec. 16,  8:00 AM - 10:00 AM,  in the usual class room.  It will be comprehensive and worth 200 points.
